This section also uses CATE-208 as the primary lab space, with Canvas as the official home for content and grades. Expect hands-on work most class meetings.

This section is fully online. You’ll still work with the same hands-on concepts and modules; we’ll use Canvas, remote labs, and detailed guidance to keep you on track.

Class Overview

What this course is about

Client operating systems are the everyday OSs you find on desktops and laptops, like Windows 10 and 11. In ITNW-1308 Implementing and Supporting Client Operating Systems, you’ll learn how to install, configure, secure, and support these systems in a way that prepares you for real help desk and support roles.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Install and configure network clients.
  • Set up users, groups, policies, and profiles.
  • Configure hardware components and applications.
  • Set up and maintain logon security and security for files and printers.
  • Configure and optimize clients in multiple environments.

How This Course Works

Weekly Structure

Format & time expectations

Format: Sections 004 and 005 are Hybrid in CATE-208; Section 012 is Online Only.

Typical week at IOTBN Inc. looks like:

  • Short readings or mini-lectures to introduce key client OS and security concepts.
  • Hands-on labs where you practice installing, configuring, and troubleshooting systems.
  • Assignments or quizzes to check your understanding.
  • Open lab / tutoring hours where you can get additional help.

Time expectation: Plan on spending about 1-2 hours per week on this course, including class time and lab work.

Communication

How to reach your instructor

  • Primary contact Messages must be sent through the Canvas Inbox or from your ACES student email.
  • Response time You should receive a response within 48 hours on weekdays (not including weekends or holidays).
  • Important Note Messages sent from personal email or Discord, will not receive a timely response.
  • Office & Tutoring Hours In-class tutoring / open lab hours are generally held:
    • Tuesdays: 1:00–3:00 p.m.
    • Wednesdays: 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
    • Thursdays: 1:00–3:00 p.m.
