Before class begins
Pre-course checklist
- Log in to Canvas using your ACES credentials. This is your main workspace for the course.
- Make sure you can access your ACES student email. Important college and course messages come through here.
- Locate your ITNW-1308 course shell (sections 004, 005, or 012). If Canvas feels new, don’t worry, we’ll navigate it together.
- Open the Start Here module in Canvas to explore how the course is organized.
- Complete the Introduce Yourself activity. It’s a simple way for us to begin building community and getting to know the team.
- If you’d like extra practice using your own device, take a look at the VM specs on the Tech page. (This is completely optional, campus labs and loaners already have what you need.)

Week 1 · Getting settled
Your first week in the course
- Watch the Instructor Welcome video on the Home page. It’ll give you a sense of what to expect and how to succeed.
- Explore the Course Info and Belonging at IOTBN pages. These pages explain how the course works and how we support new learners.
- Complete the Module 1 activities (Security Basics) in Canvas. We start small and build skill by skill.
If something isn’t working: Send me a message through the Canvas Inbox or from your
ACES email.
